Outreach at St. John's Outreach activities at St. John's are varied and offer a wide spectrum of level of commitment. Any of us who are interested in being involved have something we can do, whether the time we have to offer is a lot or a little.Feeding the Hungry Food Pantry – Each Sunday St. John’s takes a food donation collection at the offertory. Food for the pantry is brought to the altar along with our monetary offerings. Volunteers bring the food to the local pantry each week. Cathedral Soup Kitchen in Boston – In every month with a 5th Monday, members of St John's gather downtown and help serve lunch at St Paul's Cathedral's Monday Lunch Program. St. John’s also provides dessert for the lunch that day. Those who are unable to join the work crew downtown can bake cookies and treats to support our ministry. Thanksgiving Dinner Baskets – Each year the St. John’s Church School, together with the children of our on site preschool The Bowen Cooperative Nursery School, prepare baskets to provide a Thanksgiving Dinner for needy local residents. Members of St. John’s outreach ministry deliver the baskets. St. John's Gift and Thrift Shop. Additional Outreach OpportunitiesFrom time to time St. John’s sponsors collection drives for local charities. St. John’s has participated in and supported the efforts of the international The Episcopal Relief and Development Fund, (formerly the Presiding Bishop's Fund), the national Women’s United Thank Offering (UTO), the local Episcopal City Mission, the Massachusetts Council of Churches, and Cooperative Metropolitan Ministries (CMM). In addition to official church sponsored outreach initiatives, St. John’s supports members of the parish in the development of their own personal outreach ministry. If you might be interested in joining us in any of these efforts, please let us know. We'd love to have you on board! |
