Rev. Michael Thompson, Esq. (He/Him)

Priest in Charge
About Michael
Michael is a transitional Deacon in the Episcopal Church. God willing and the people consenting, he will be ordained a priest in the Winter. (In the Episcopal Church, all priests are first ordained deacons for a
period of at least six months.)

Michael grew up in the Bronx in New York City and was raised in the African Methodist Episcopal Church. He came to the Boston area for college in 2001 and never left. He is a graduate of Harvard College (A.B. 2005) and Harvard Law School (J.D. 2008). Michael is a practicing litigation attorney, and will be bi-vocational, continuing to practice law while also serving as a priest in the Episcopal Church.

Michael came to the Episcopal Church in about 2012 and fell in love with the beauty of the Episcopal Church’s liturgical tradition combined with its ethos emphasizing Scripture, tradition, and reason. Before beginning his journey toward ordained ministry, Michael served in several capacities including as a lay eucharistic minister, worship leader, Vestry member, Warden, and Clerk.

In preparation for ordained ministry, Michael received a Master of Divinity from Bexley Hall-Seabury Western Theological Seminary Federation, a low-residency, distance learning Episcopal seminary based in Chicago, Illinois. He also completed field education internships with the Outdoor Church of Cambridge and at All Saints Parish in Brookline, Massachusetts.

Michael enjoys reading, music, going for walks and hikes, cooking and baking, and spending time with his husband, Patrick, and their two cat children, Aidan and Tynan.
