News from the Centre Street Food Pantry:  A record-setting number of families had good food and good cheer for the Thanksgiving Holiday due to your generosity!  Please continue your thoughtful and generous giving as Christmas approaches – the shelves need re-stocking!

Again, thank you for your donations and for helping to reduce the stress in the families who depend on the Pantry as a source of good food.  Please continue to leave your donations on the right side bench in the long hall – along with vocally spreading the word about the Pantry!  Thank you

The Reverend Mark D. W. Edington is our Celebrant and Preacher at the 8:00 a.m. Holy Eucharist, Rite II service this Sunday, December 21, 2014.   There will be a Christingle Service at 10:00 a.m., followed by a Pot-luck Brunch and the Greening of the Church.   Child Care will be provided.

Church School News:

This Sunday, we will have our first Christingle Service, to be led by the children!  All young people who would like to participate are welcome to do so.  There are speaking and non-speaking parts available; non-speaking parts include handing out Christingles to the congregation so no need to stand at the front of the church.  Please let Nicky Chapman (nutternicky@hotmail.com) know if your child(ren) is interested.  We will have a brief run-through on Sunday morning at 9:40AM.  Everyone is welcome to participate.

The Deadline for Poinsettia Donations is this Sunday, December 21st  If you are

interested in donating toward poinsettias and greenery that will adorn the sanctuary at Christmas,

time is running out!  Please designate your gift in honor of, in memory of, or in thanks for special people or events.    Names will be listed in the Christmas bulletin, and plants will be shared with housebound members and friends after Christmas.  Thank you, Altar Guild Members

Recipes and Memories, the new St. John’s cookbook, is out! This Sunday we will be selling these wonderful gifts for $15. This cookbook contains recipes from our members now and from previous cookbooks made at St. John’s. Make sure to get your copy!  Kate McKey-Dunar

Monday Lunch at the Cathedral Soup Kitchen:  Monday, December 29th is our next turn to serve lunch at the Cathedral Soup Kitchen.  Due to the construction at the Cathedral, the lunch program has been relocated to St. John the Evangelist Church, located at 35 Bowdoin Street on Beacon Hill.  For those travelling from Newton, let’s meet at St. John’s Newtonville with a departure time of 11:00 a.m. for the trip downtown.   If you are coming from a downtown location, meet us at St. John the Evangelist at 11:45. And, for those who cannot attend but would like to contribute, please bring cookies or bars (homemade or store bought) to church this Sunday December, 28th. If you have any questions, please contact Libby Seaman at epseaman@comcast.net, 617-251-5629.

Christmas Sock Collection

Please give a pair (or more) of socks to the Monday Lunch Program community.  As you see in the above notice, St. John’s will be serving lunch on Monday, December 29, and we will deliver the socks at that time.  Many of the Monday Lunch patrons were residents of the recently-closed Long Island shelter and the transition has been challenging.  This is an easy way to help out.  There will be collection boxes at St. John’s up until December 29.  Thank you in advance for your generosity!

Coffee Hour Sign-Up Sheet for January – March is now posted on the Parish Office door.  Please take the time to sign up for an upcoming Sunday.  Participating in this essential and fun part of fellowship at St. John’s is easier than you think!  If you are interested in hosting one, there are plenty of veteran coffee hour providers who could guide you and answer your questions. Thank you!
