St John’s Happenings

News from the Centre Street Food Pantry:  Please continue your thoughtful and generous giving!  Due to the holiday demand at the Pantry, shelves are in need of re-stocking!  As always, thank you for your donations and for helping to reduce the stress in the families who depend on the Pantry as a source of good food.  Please continue to leave your donations on the right side bench in the long hall – along with vocally spreading the word about the Pantry!  Thank you

The Reverend Mark D. W. Edington is our Celebrant and Preacher at the 8:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. Holy Eucharist, Rite II, this Sunday, January 4, 2015.  Child Care will be provided.

Check it out!  Mark has an essay posted on WBUR’s “Cognoscenti” blog. You can find it at this link.

Church School News:

This SundayJanuary 4, there will be no classes.

Church School classes will resume next Sunday, January 11th.

Many thanks to the intrepid bakers — Sophie, Isabelle, and Nicky Chapman, Honour Dufresne and Jennifer Morgan — for baking dozens and dozens (and dozens!) of cookies; to Libby Seaman, for spearheading our amazing sock drive; and to Libby, Peter Wenner, Cleo Messinger, Alastair Battson, Nancy Bowler-Goeselt, and Christian Goeselt for representing Team Saint John’s at the Monday Lunch Program this past Monday. Every last crumb of the cookies went to feed over ninety hungry and cold people, the largest gathering—we were told—to be served by the program since it took up its temporary residence at Saint John’s, Bowdoin Street. The gospel in action! Thanks, team!

Recipes and Memories, the new St. John’s cookbook, is out! We will be selling these wonderful gifts for $15. This cookbook contains recipes from our members now and from previous cookbooks made at St. John’s. Make sure to get your copy!  Kate McKey-Dunar

Next Book Group Meeting:  We will discuss our December book selection, “During the Reign of the Queen of Persia”, on Tuesday, January 20, at 7:30 p.m.  If everyone has read “The Storyteller” by Jodi Picoult by then, we can discuss that as well.  Or, that could be our February selection – we’ll see how many of us get to finish it!  All are welcome!

Coffee Hour Sign-Up Sheet for January – March is now posted on the Parish Office door.  Please take the time to sign up for an upcoming Sunday.  Participating in this essential and fun part of fellowship at St. John’s is easier than you think!  If you are interested in hosting one, there are plenty of veteran coffee hour providers who could guide you and answer your questions. Thank you!
