St. John’s Happenings

News Update From Centre Street Food Pantry:  An average of 138 families have taken home bags of good food each month – this is up from 111 in 2012!  As we move forward, some items that are needed:  peanut butter, spaghetti sauce, cereals, meals in a can and individually wrapped toothbrushes, which the Pantry is giving out this month!  Your donations can be left at the Saint John’s Giving Tree.  The Food Pantry extends their heartfelt thanks to all who continually contribute to help fill these bags for needy families.  Thank you!

The Reverend Mark D. W. Edington is our Celebrant and Preacher at the 8:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. Holy Eucharist, Rite II Service, February 16, 2014.  Child Care will be provided.

Sunday School News:

The Church School will not be having class this Sunday, February 16th due to school vacation week. If you are interested in helping with this event, please contact Kate McKey-Dunar at kemckey@gmail.com

Church School classes are for children aged 3 through grade 6 are held from 10-10:40 a.m., with children joining the service at the Offertory to be with their families for Holy Communion. Our youngest children will be using Godly Play as their curriculum which is a montessori based program. Our older children will be using Feasting On The Word which is a lectionary based curriculum. A Big Thank You to all who have signed on for Coffee Hour!  There are only two more dates to be filled:  March 2 and April 27.  Please take the time to sign up for one of these dates – the list is posted on the Parish Office door.  Thank you!

The Next Book Group Meeting will be Tuesday, February 25th at 7:30 p.m.  We will be discussing “The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry” and author Rachel Joyce.   Please  join us – we welcome all to our small, but enthusiastic group!

Diocesan News:

The Countdown to summer camp begins!  The Barbara C. Harris Camp is now accepting registration for campers in grades 4-7, 8-9, and 10-12.  BCH is a place where all campers feel accepted, loved and are able to develop lasting friendships.  Trained counselors work closely with campers to support them in their faith formation and personal journeys.  If you would like more information, please see the 2014 brochure in the Loring Room, or go to www.bchcenter.org/camp.
