Centre Street Food Pantry News:  What is needed?  I’m glad you asked!   Hot or cold cereals, meals in a can, large size diapers and toiletries are always good things to pick up. Your donations can be left at the St. John’s Giving Tree in the upper hall.

The Food Pantry is looking for a special someone who would be interested in a part-time position as Pantry Manager.  If you are interested, or know someone who might be, please emailcentrestfoodpantry@gmail.com for more details.  Thank you to Marjorie Carey for delivering our donations to the Pantry!

We Welcome The Reverend Richard Simeone as our Guest Celebrant and Preacher at the 8:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. Holy Eucharist, Rite II Service, March 2, 2014.  Child Care will be provided.

The Rev. Simeone was ordained in 1966, and has served parishes in the dioceses of Western New York, Maine, Connecticut and Massachusetts.  Retiring in 2010, Dick continues his ministry as a Spiritual Director, is the co-coordinator in this diocese for the Education for Ministry program and is a priest associate at St. John’s, Charlestown.  He and his marriage partner, The Rev’d Lyn Brakeman reside in Cambridge.

Please Note:  Mark and Judy will be traveling to a family wedding this weekend.  Mark will have no office hours this Saturday, March 1st.

Sunday School News:

The Church School will be having class this Sunday, March 2nd. If you are interested in helping with this event, please contact Kate McKey-Dunar at kemckey@gmail.com

Church School classes are for children aged 3 through grade 6 are held from 10-10:40 a.m., with children joining the service at the Offertory to be with their families for Holy Communion. Our youngest children will be using Godly Play as their curriculum which is a montessori based program. Our older children will be using Feasting On The Word which is a lectionary based curriculum. Ash Wednesday, March 5th, 7:30 p.m. at The Parish of the Messiah, Auburndale The liturgy of The Imposition of Ashes and Holy Eucharist service begins our observance of Lent.  St. John’s will join Trinity Church, and Saint Paul’s Church in this shared service.

Reminder ~ Spring Forward:  Daylight Saving Time begins Sunday, March 9th.  Remember to turn your clocks ahead one hour.

There will be an Organ Recital featuring our former Music Director, Joseph Fort, at Church of the Advent, Brimmer Street, Boston, on Sunday, March 16th.  The recital begins at 4:30 p.m., preceding Evensong and Benediction which starts at 5:00 p.m.  All are invited!

Diocesan News:

The Episcopal City Mission is co-sponsoring THE VIGIL, a moving film about faith and immigration reform in the U.S.  There will be a free screening of this new film on Thursday, March 6 at the West Newton Cinema on Washington Street.  There will be a reception with light refreshments at 6:30 p.m. followed by the screening at 7:00 p.m. Seating is limited – please RSVP at https://the-vigil-west-newton.eventbrite.com.  (See poster on Parish Office door)

The Countdown to summer camp begins!  The Barbara C. Harris Camp is now accepting registration for campers in grades 4-7, 8-9, and 10-12.  BCH is a place where all campers feel accepted, loved and are able to develop lasting friendships.  Trained counselors work closely with campers to support them in their faith formation and personal journeys.  If you would like more information, please see the 2014 brochure in the Loring Room, or go to www.bchcenter.org/camp.
