News from the Centre Street Food Pantry:

Hunger is not on vacation!  Our Christmas Giving Tree reminds us that donations are still very much needed.  Many children are now home from school and hungry for a good breakfast and lunch.  The Centre Street Food Pantry is especially in need of a variety of soups, meals in a can, jelly and jam, cereal and coffee (ground or instant).  Thank you to Laura Brewer for delivering our donations – it is much appreciated!

The Reverend Mark D. W. Edington is our Celebrant and Preacher at the 10:00 a.m. Holy Eucharist, Rite II Service, July 28, 2013.  Child Care will be provided.

Mark holds office hours at Saint John’s on Saturday mornings between 9:00 a.m. and 12:00 noon.  If you have any pastoral concerns, you can reach Mark at 617.645.4691 or email him atmark.edington@gmail.com.

Summer Office Hours:  The Parish Office will be open Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. through Labor Day.  As always, voicemail messages will continue to be retrieved daily!

Sunday School News: Church School classes will resume in the Fall.  If you are interested in helping with Church School, please speak to Kate McKey-Dunar, or email her at kemckey@gmail.com.

On August 4th, after the Community Cookout, there will be a short parent meeting.  We are looking at what we are going to do for Sunday School this year and what are the needs of your families.  We will have child care available during the meeting.  Please RSVP to Kate Mckey-Dunar at kemckey@gmail.com.  If you cannot make it, I will send you a few questions to answer so I can have everyone’s voice in this important conversation.  Thank you, Kate

Summer Coffee Hour:   For the months of July and August we will keep the fellowship of coffee hour super easy.! We encourage folks to drop off a package or two of cookies and/or lemonade and iced tea to have in reserve.  It will be easier if you bring in bottles/cans/containers of cold drinks so that things do not need to be mixed causing additional clean up.  Your donations can be left in the kitchenette or refrigerator off of the Loring Room.  Thank you

Cathedral Soup Kitchen Lunch Program This Monday, July 29:   Volunteers from St. John’s are invited to assist in serving lunch to the homeless at the Cathedral Church of St. Paul, 138 Tremont St., Boston.  If you can participate, please plan to be at the Cathedral by 11:45 a.m.  Contributions of finger food desserts (brownies & cookies) may be brought to church on Sunday, July 28th.  Please leave them in the Loring Room and designate them for the Soup Kitchen.  If you are interested in helping and could use a ride to the Cathedral, please speak to Libby or email her at epseaman@comcast.net.  Serving and clean-up are completed by one o’clock.

Dates to Remember:

August 4, and September 1:  5:00 p.m. Holy Eucharist, Rite II ~ followed by a Community Cook-Out on the Otis Street lawn.

ST. JOHN’S COOKBOOK!  We are starting to compile recipes for the new St. John’s cookbook. The categories are:  appetizers and soups, entrees, desserts, and, of course, drinks. We would love all families to contribute 2 recipes which fall into different categories. Please send them to Kate McKey-Dunar at kemckey@gmail.com. Thanks!

Mark your Calendars:   Scheduling for a new SAINT JOHN’S PICTORIAL BOOK for 2013-14  has now been determined!  The first three Sundays in October:  6, 13 and 20 Alastair Battson will be taking photographs following the service of all members, friends and anyone who cares to have a formal picture taken.  These pictures will be available for reprints and cards, etc. for a fee (all proceeds to go towards the upcoming church improvements), and will then go into the Pictorial Book.   Please stay tuned – more information will follow!
