St. John’s Happenings

Centre Street Food Pantry: St. John’s is encouraged to help the Food Pantry stock their shelves with canned and shelf-stable side dish items as Thanksgiving nears!  Suggestions are:  canned vegetables, mushroom soup, French’s onion strings, canned pie filling, piecrust mix, cake or cookie mix.  For more suggestions, please see flyer on the Parish Office door.  As always, they will be collecting and distributing supermarket gift cards (any denomination) as well!

Please Note:  Your contributions should now be left on the side bench on the right in the upper hall.  The Dedicated Food Pantry Volunteers send their heartfelt thanks!

The Reverend Mark D. W. Edington is our Celebrant and Preacher at the 8:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. Holy Eucharist, Rite II Service, October 26, 2014.  Child Care will be provided.

Church School News:

This Sunday, the Sunday School children will be preparing for All Saints Day.  We will be learning about saints and making posters for the Procession on All Saints Day on November 2.  Each poster will represent a favorite thing of the child and the patron saint associated with that activity or object.  The children will start in church for the 10AM service and be dismissed to Sunday School after the first hymn.  Godly Play is offered for children 4 years old through 2nd grade.  Older children (3rd – 6th grade) will be assisting with the younger children and participating in the activities.  Child care is available for younger children.  If you are interested in having your child(ren) attend Sunday School, willing to volunteer or have ideas about the program, please contact Jennifer Morgan at jmmorgan321@aol.com.

An Invitation:  The Sisters of St. Margaret invite us all to a Hymn Sing on Friday, October 24th at 7:00 pm in the chapel of St. Margaret’s Convent, 30 Harden Hill Road in Duxbury.  The Rev. Carl P. Daw, Jr., noted hymnologist, will lead an evening of singing hymns and hearing their stories, followed by Compline. RSVP to 781 934 9477 x 501 or email The Sisters (convent@ssmbos.org). All are welcome.

Help Finding Housing

Our sister Jennifer Nolan is looking for a new place to live. The home in which she has been renting an apartment has been sold, and the new owner is requiring her (and others) to leave by October 31st.

This does not give her a great deal of time to find a new place. Any ideas, contacts, or suggestion would be helpful. You can reach Jennifer directly at jennifernolan48@yahoo.com if you know of something that might be helpful. Thank you.

All Saints’ Festival Sunday, November 2nd:  On this day, St. John’s will remember those who have died during the past year, as well as “all the Saints” who are cherished by each of us.  Please give the names of those you wish to have remembered to Paula, either by leaving a note on the desk in the Parish Office, email to stjohnnew@rcn.com, or call 617.964.2591.

Reminder – Fall Back:  Daylight saving time ends next Sunday, November 2nd.  Don’t forget to set your clocks back one hour!
