St. John’s Happenings

News from the Centre Street Food Pantry:
St. John’s is encouraged to help the Food Pantry stock their shelves with canned and shelf-stable side dish items as Thanksgiving nears! Suggestions are: canned vegetables, mushroom soup, French’s onion strings, canned pie filling, piecrust mix, cake or cookie mix, bread mixes, dried cranberries, applesauce, festive napkins/table cloths, turkey roasting tin foil pans, gravy (turkey or chicken), stuffing mix, cranberry sauce. As always, they will be collecting and distributing supermarket gift cards (any denomination) as well! Please bring your contributions, and put them under our “Christmas Giving Tree” in the upper hall. The Dedicated Food Pantry Volunteers send their heartfelt thanks!

The Reverend Mark D. W. Edington is our Celebrant and Jeff Barrell our Preacher at the 10:00 a.m. Holy Eucharist, Rite II Service, October 27, 2013. Child Care will be provided.

Mark holds office hours at Saint John’s on Saturday mornings between 9:00 a.m. and 12:00 noon. If you have any pastoral concerns, you can reach Mark at 617.645.4691 or email him at mark.edington@gmail.com.

Sunday School News:
Church School classes are for children aged 3 through grade 6 are held from 10-10:40 a.m., with children joining the service at the Offertory to be with their families for Holy Communion. Our youngest children will be using Godly Play as their curriculum which is a montessori based program. Our older children will be using Feasting On The Word which is a lectionary based curriculum.
To register your child for Church School, please go to www.saintjohnschurch.com. The link is on the front page.
Can you help? Junior Warden, Alastair Battson, is asking for a short work morning at the church: this Saturday, October 26th, 9-11 a.m. to dig a foundation and set our new arbor in concrete at the Lowell Street entrance to the Memorial Garden. He just needs a few people to help him – please let him know if you are available. Thank you!

ST. JOHN’S COOKBOOK! We are continuing to compile recipes for the new St. John’s cookbook. The categories are appetizers and soups, entrees, desserts, and, of course, drinks. We would love all families to contribute AS MANY RECIPES AS YOU WOULD LIKE! You can submit your recipes at www.saintjohnschurch.com, under the tab “What We Do”, by emailing it to kemckey@gmail.com, or filling out a form in Kate McKey-Dunar’s mailbox. Thank You!

What does it mean to be Anglican? This fall St. John’s will host a Saturday series to explore some of the deeper foundation stones of the Anglican tradition, and seek to understand how they help shape the contentions of our day. Meetings will be held in the Loring Room from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. on November 9, and November 23. All are welcome!

All Saints’ Sunday, November 3rd: On this day, St. John’s will join in the 10:30 a.m. worship service at Parish of the Messiah, 1900 Commonwealth Ave., Auburndale. As we’ve done in the past, St. John’s will remember those who have died during the past year, as well as “all the Saints” who are cherished by each of us. Please give the names of those you wish to have remembered to Paula, either by leaving a note on the desk in the Parish Office, email to stjohnnew@rcn.com, or call 617.964.2591.

Reminder – Fall Back: Daylight saving time ends Sunday, November 3rd. Don’t forget to set your clocks back one hour!
The Deadline for the November edition of The Eagle is Monday, November 4th. If you have an article or notice you would like to be in the St. John’s Newsletter, please send it to John Evans at lulululu@rcn.com. Early submissions are appreciated. Thank you

Fall Work Day at St. John’s will take place on Saturday, November 16th from 9:00 a.m – 1:00 p.m.
The Building and Grounds Committee could use many helping hands to work on projects both indoors and outdoors! If you have any time free that morning, please plan to come and lend a hand. Thank you, and if you have any questions, please speak to Junior Warden, Alastair Battson.

SAVE THE DATE! St. John’s Arts and Crafts Fair November 23rd. If you know anyone who would like to be a vendor at the fair, please have them contact Laura Brewer at l.brewer@rivers.org. Thank you!
