St. John’s Happenings

Blessing of the Animals Service is this Sunday, October 6th at 10:00 a.m.  We will join the congregation of Trinity Church, 11 Homer Street, Newton Centre. The Reverend Todd Miller will officiate.  You are invited to bring your dogs, cats and other small pets in carriers, favorite stuffed animals, or a picture of a beloved pet.  The service will be held indoors.

News from the Centre Street Food Pantry:

As we get into fall there is great need for canned soup, along with cereal, granola bars, coffee and canned fruit.  Please remember the Food Pantry when you do your weekly grocery shopping.  Bring your contributions on Sunday, and put them under our “Christmas Giving Tree” in the upper hall.  The Dedicated Food Pantry Volunteers send their heartfelt thanks!

Sunday School News:

There will be no Church School classes this Sunday.

ST. JOHN’S COOKBOOK! We are continuing to compile recipes for the new St. John’s cookbook. The categories are appetizers and soups, entrees, desserts, and, of course, drinks. We would love all families to contribute AS MANY RECIPES AS YOU WOULD LIKE! You can submit your recipes at www.saintjohnschurch.com, under the tab “What We Do”, by emailing it to kemckey@gmail.com, or filling out a form in Kate McKey-Dunar’s mailbox.  Thank You!

What does it mean to be Anglican?  (Please Note:  The First Session of this series scheduled for this Saturday, Oct. 5th is cancelled.  )  This fall St. John’s will host a Saturday series to explore some of the deeper foundation stones of the Anglican tradition, and seek to understand how they help shape the contentions of our day.  Meetings will be held in the Loring Room from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. on October 19, November 9, and November 23All are welcome!

St. John’s Gift and Thrift Shop opens this Saturday, October 5th, 11:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.!  Volunteers are needed!  Any amount of time you can offer on a Saturday, either morning or afternoon, would be greatly appreciated.  We also hope you’ll consider either donating or consigning:  useful household items, home decorations, small furniture pieces, antiques and jewelry – items that are in good condition.  Please consider how you can help – giving of your time, donating items, and by all means coming in to shop and to visit. Thank you!

Mark your Calendars:   (Please Note:  Due to St. John’s worshipping at Trinity Church this Sunday, the scheduling of the first photo sitting for the SAINT JOHN’S PICTORIAL BOOK will be Sunday, October 13th.   The following two Sundays, October 20 and 27th Alastair will also be taking photographs following the service of all members, friends and anyone who cares to have a formal picture taken.  These pictures will be available for reprints and cards, etc. for a fee (all proceeds to go towards the upcoming church improvements), and will then go into the Pictorial Book.

Fall Work Day at St. John’s will take place on Saturday, November 16th from 9:00 a.m – 1:00 p.m.

The Building and Grounds Committee could use many helping hands to work on projects both indoors and outdoors!  If you have any time free that morning, please plan to come and lend a hand.  Thank you, and if you have any questions, please speak to Junior Warden, Alastair Battson.
