St. John’s Happenings

On Friday, October 31st, the children of Newton will be celebrating Halloween with Trick or Treat.  As a member of the neighborhood, St. John’s will be providing candy to costumed trick-or-treaters. If you would like to help distribute candy, join us starting at 5pm outside of the Lowell Avenue entrance.  If you have questions, contact Edward at edward.dunar@gmail.com.

Fall Parish Work Day at St. John’s will take place this Saturday, November 1st from 9:00 a.m – Noon  and also the following week, Saturday,  November 8th from 9:00 a.m. – Noon  Coffee and bagels will be provided.  Both outdoor and indoor work needs to be done, mostly light, but some bigger chores too!  Please bring your garden gloves if you care to work outdoors. Thank you, and if you have any questions, please speak to Junior Wardens, Laura Brewer or Rose Yevich.

News from the Centre Street Food Pantry:

St. John’s is encouraged to help the Food Pantry stock their shelves with canned and shelf-stable side dish items as Thanksgiving nears!  Suggestions are:  canned vegetables, mushroom soup, French’s onion strings, canned pie filling, piecrust mix, cake or cookie mix.  For more suggestions, please see flyer on the Parish Office door.  As always, they will be collecting and distributing supermarket gift cards (any denomination) as well! Please Note:  Your contributions should now be left on the side bench on the right in the upper hall.  The Dedicated Food Pantry Volunteers send their heartfelt thanks!

The Reverend Mark D. W. Edington is our Celebrant and Preacher at the 8:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. Holy Eucharist, Rite II ~ All Saints Festival Service, November 2, 2014.  Child Care will be provided.

Church School News:

This Sunday, the Sunday School children will be participating in the procession for the 10AM service for All Saints’ Day.  Please arrive about 5 minutes early.  Last week, the children made posters to represent a favorite thing and the patron saint associated with that activity or object.  The children will be carrying their posters in the procession this week.  If your child was unable to attend last week, don’t worry; there will be saint posters for them to carry also.  The children will stay in church for the All Saints’ Day service.  Child care is available for younger children.  If you are interested in having your child(ren) attend Sunday School, willing to volunteer or have ideas about the program, please contact Jennifer Morgan at jmmorgan321@aol.com.

Help Finding Housing

Our sister Jennifer Nolan is looking for a new place to live. The home in which she has been renting an apartment has been sold, and the new owner is requiring her (and others) to leave by October 31st.

This does not give her a great deal of time to find a new place. Any ideas, contacts, or suggestion would be helpful. You can reach Jennifer directly at jennifernolan48@yahoo.com if you know of something that might be helpful. Thank you.

The Deadline for the November edition of The Eagle is Monday, November 3rd.  If you have an article or notice you would like to be in the St. John’s Newsletter, please send it to John Evans at lulululu@rcn.com.  Thank you
