Centre Street Food Pantry News As we get into fall there is great need for soup and canned meals, along with cereal, granola bars, and coffee.  Along with food, Marjorie Carey has reported that the Pantry is in need of shampoo, dish detergent, and sanitary products for their clients. Your contributions can be left under our “Christmas Giving Tree” in the upper hall.  Heartfelt thanks are sent by the Pantry volunteers and the dozens of families who receive your generous donations!

The Reverend Mark D. W. Edington is our Celebrant and Preacher at the 8:00 and 10:00 a.m. Holy Eucharist Service, Rite II, September 21, 2014. Child Care will be provided.

Introduction to Episcopal History and Belief :  This Saturday, September 20,  10:00 – 11:00 a.m.  Mark will host the second in a series of three Inquirer’s Classes.  The remaining class will be the following Saturday, September 27.

Coffee Hour Sign-Up Sheet for September – November is now posted on the Parish Office door.  There are some slots that remain open, so please take the time to sign up for one.  Participating in this essential and fun part of fellowship at St. John’s is easier than you think!  If you are interested in hosting one, there areplenty of veteran coffee hour providers who could guide you and answer your questions. Thank you!

St. John’s Gift and Thrift Shop is re-opening this Saturday, September 20th  – 11:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.  Can you help?!  Any amount of time you can offer on a Saturday would be so appreciated.  We also hope you’ll consider either donating or consigning:  useful household items, home decorations, small furniture pieces, antiques and jewelry – items that are in good condition.  Please consider how you can help – giving of your time, donating items, and by all means coming in to shop and to visit. Thank you!

The Newton Collaborative Confirmation Class will have its first class this Sunday, September 21st, 5:00 – 7:30 p.m.  Classes will be held at St. Paul’s Church in Newton Highlands.  Enrollment is open to all young folks aged 12 to 16.  Please see the flyer on the Parish Office door.

The Next Book Group Meeting will be Tuesday, September 23rd at 7:30 p.m.  We will discuss summer book selections with emphasis on the culinary genre.   Also, we would like to choose two books for upcoming meetings in Oct. and Nov. – so, please come with ideas!  This will give us all the ability to buy, borrow, or reserve from the library our choices in advance.  We would love to see new faces –please come and join us!

Monday Lunch at the Cathedral Soup Kitchen:  Monday, September 29th is our next turn to serve lunch at the Cathedral Soup Kitchen.  Due to the construction at the Cathedral, the lunch program has been relocated to St. John the Evangelist Church, located at 35 Bowdoin Street on Beacon Hill.  For those travelling from Newton, let’s meet at St. John’s Newtonville with a departure time of 11:00 for the trip downtown.   If you are coming from a downtown location, meet us at St. John the Evangelist at 11:45.  And for those who cannot attend but would like to contribute, please bring cookies or bars (homemade or store bought) to church on Sunday September 28. Celebration of Creation * Blessing of the Animals Service will be Sunday, October 5th at the 10:00 a.m. service.  This service will be held on the Otis Street lawn.  In the event of rain, it will be in the upper hall.  Bring your pet, your stuffed animal or a picture of your departed pet.  All are welcome!

Mark Your Calendar – St. John’s Fine Art and Crafts Fair, Saturday, November 22, 10 am – 3 pm:  Do you make wonderful crafts or know others who do and live in the MA area?
