St. John’s Happenings

A service of celebration and thanksgiving for the life of Patricia Macdonald will take place at Saint John’s tomorrow, June 6th at 9:00 a.m. in the church, to be followed by a reception in the Parish Hall. Following the reception, an interment will take place at the Mount Benedict Cemetery in West Roxbury.

The Reverend Mark D. W. Edington is our Celebrant and The Reverend Robert H. Schoeck our Preacher at the 10:00 a.m. Great Feast of Pentecost Service, June 8, 2014.  Child Care will be provided.

Please Note:  There will be road closures of Washington Street and Commonwealth Avenue due to Newton’s Half-Marathon this Sunday, June 8th!

Also:  There will be no 8:00 a.m. service this Sunday.

Sunday School News:

Teacher Recognition/Last Day of Program Year:   This Sunday is the last day of the program year for Church School. It is also Teacher Recognition day. Children will be in church to hand out the “flame” pins and to celebrate their teachers. It will be a fun Sunday!

Summer Office Hours:  The Parish Office will be open TuesdayWednesday and Thursday from 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. through Labor Day.  As always, voicemail messages will continue to be retrieved daily!

Securing the Church:  There have been a few occasions recently where both the Otis and Lowell Street entrance doors, as well as the Parish Office doors, have remained unlocked overnight.  We have alerted our cleaning service provider, as well as Bowen Nursery School staff.  It is important that we all are diligent about remembering to lock up before we exit the building.  Thank you!

The Next Book Group Meeting  will be Tuesday, June 17th at 7:30 p.m.  We will be discussing Light Between the Oceans and author, M. L. Stedman.  This will be our final meeting before summer break.  Please come and join us – we welcome newcomers!

Summertime Coffee Hour:   For the months of July and August we will keep the fellowship of coffee hour fuss-free.  We encourage folks to drop off a package or two of cookies and/or lemonade and iced tea to have in reserve.  It will be easier if you bring in bottles/cans/containers of cold drinks so that things do not need to be mixed causing additional clean up.  Your donations can be left in the kitchenette or refrigerator off of the Loring Room.  Thank you
