The Reverend Mark D. W. Edington is our Celebrant and Preacher at the 9:00 a.m. Holy Eucharist Service, Rite II this Sunday, June 21, 2015.  Child Care will be provided.

Monday June 29 is St. John’s turn to serve lunch at the Cathedral Soup Kitchen (temporarily relocated to St. John the Evangelist, Bowdoin Street on Beacon Hill).  We do not have a Newton driver for this trip.  If you can be a driver, please let Libby Seaman know (epseaman@comcast.net).  Otherwise, please meet at St. John’s Bowdoin Street at 11:45, and bring cookies or bars as you are able.  You can also drop off cookies and bars – store bought or homemade – at St. John’s Newtonville on Sunday, June 21 (one week early) and they will be delivered down to the soup kitchen.  For future planning, our next turn to serve is Monday, August 31 – mark your calendar, and thank you!

Summer Office HoursThe Parish Office will be open Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. through Labor Day.  As always, voicemail messages and emails will continue to be retrieved daily!

Summertime Coffee HourFor the months of July and August we will keep the fellowship of coffee hour simple!  We encourage folks to drop off a package or two of cookies and/or lemonade and iced tea to have in reserve.  It will be easier if you bring in bottles/cans/containers of cold drinks so that things do not need to be mixed causing additional clean up.  Your donations can be left in the kitchenette or refrigerator off of the Loring Room.  Thank you

News from the Centre Street Food Pantry: Headed to the Store? The Pantry could use a whole lot of healthy, but fun breakfast cereals, granola bars and other healthy snacks for children who will soon be out of school. Please leave your donations on the bench in the upper hall.  As always, thank you for remembering the Pantry when you shop!

Please NoteHelp is needed in delivering St. John’s donations this summer while Marjorie Carey is away.  Please let Paula know if you can make a trip to the Food Pantry on a Tuesday afternoon (open 4-7 p.m.) at least once in July and once in August.  Call the office for more information – 617-964-2591.  Thank you

Volunteer for B-Safe this summer!

B-Safe is an Episcopal summer program for “children in need” in Boston.

The program is designed to keep vulnerable children off the streets and in fun academic environments where they can feel safe and prosper.

This is an enormously popular & meaningful volunteer opportunity where numerous types of giving options exist:

July 26 and August 2nd – 1-4:30 PM

Meet and cook meals at St. John’s. Wine and cheese will be provided to enhance the camaraderie.

July 27-30 and August 3-5 – 10:45 AM – 1:30 PM

Serve meals at the Epiphany School in Dorchester & enjoy reading with the children.

July 31  & August 6 – 9:30 AM – 2:30 PM

Host field trip with games and activities. Picnic-style cooking/lunch @ Houghton’s Pond, Milton MA & Farm Naturel, Lincoln MA respectively.

This great experience will be shared by Newton’s St. Paul’s and Trinity Parish in July and 5 additional parishes in August.

Please contact Libby Seaman (epseaman@comcast.net) or Glenn Vanaman (jska-vanaman@att.net) if you are interested in volunteering.
