Pride Month has begun! Excitingly, there are several opportunities for you to participate in the Boston Pride March (Saturday, June 14) and other pride marches in Massachusetts.
Diocesan Presence: The Diocese is planning to have a large and visible presence at the Boston Pride March. For those interested, the plan is to meet near Copley Square around 10:30 am on Saturday, June 14 — and Bishop Julia will be riding in a snazzy convertible during the march. Those interested may register here.
The Diocese is also encouraging participation in these other Pride parades:
Saturday, May 31 – Newburyport Pride
Sunday, June 1 – Topsfield Pride
Saturday, June 7 – Lowell Pride
Saturday, June 7 – Provincetown Pride
Saturday, June 7 – New Bedford Pride
Sunday, June 8 – Quincy Pride
Saturday, June 14 – Orleans Pride
Saturday, June 21 – Acton-Westford Pride
Saturday, June 28 – Salem Pride
Trans Memorial: Apart from the Diocesan presence, a dear friend of Michael plans the annual Trans Memorial during the Boston Pride March. The sad reality is that every year, many of our trans and non-binary siblings are murdered or go missing and presumed to be dead. During the Boston Pride March, we remember these siblings by carrying posters with their pictures and obituaries. There are more than 80 people to remember already.
To make the memorial possible, help is needed in gathering names, preparing obituaries, assembling posters, and carrying posters. If you are interested in volunteering to help with any aspect of the Trans Memorial, you can fill out this form. Michael will be carrying a poster in his clerical attire and is working to get together a contingent of clergy to do the same, understanding the importance of religious leaders being visible in this particular aspect of the Pride March.
